So I found these little ones and I had to have them... Did you know about blythe dolls? There are the hasbro littlest pet shop version ( cheaper and still cute). For those who don't know them - Blythe is a fashion doll, about 28 cm (11 inch) tall, with an oversized head and large eyes that change color with the pull of a string. It was created in 1972 and was initially only sold for one year in the USA by toy company Kenner. In 2000 the photo book This is Blythe was published and in 2001 the Japanese toy company Takara began producing new editions of Blythe dolls. There is a network of hobbyists who customize the doll for resale and create clothing and shoes for Blythe. Enthusiasts share photographs of their work and their dolls on the Internet. ( source wikipedia ) Nowadays there are loads of blogs, flickr accounts and websites devotes to blythe dolls..you can say vintage is trendy again, they are still produced by a Japanese company called Takara. It's about time I've updated my blog! My first year of PhD is over and in October I'm starting out my second one! In between writing my thesis and pilot study I managed to do this illustration in mixed media.

This was my card I made for Ripple http://ripplesketches.blogspot.com/ I made through Illustration Friday. This card was sold to an Australian lady for 10$! So thank you! and thank you Kelly for thinking about this. Here are Kelly's words :

Hi Everyone at Illustration Friday! It's Kelly Light from the "Ripple" blog. I wanted to stop back and say a huge "THANKS!" to all of the Illustration Friday contributors who came to Ripple and donated their talent and time to help the Gulf Oil Spill animal victims. In one week Ripple went from having 100 cards to having 600 cards. We went from raising $1,000.00 to help clean oiled animals to more than $5,000.00 (as of 6/22). That figure keeps growing and the art keeps coming everyday. Artist from all over the globe showed up to throw their pebbles in. The messages they shared were of care and concern, anger and frustration and even hope for an end to this catastrophe. From across the United States the message was clear -- whether near a beach or not -- we need to do what we can to help. Small sketches, small donations that add up not only in dollars but in heart.

As a result of Ripple, I get personal updates from a woman cleaning birds in Florida with the IBRRC (one of the non profits Ripple helps). She said it takes 3 bottles of Dawn Dish Detergent to wash one bird. One $10 sketch card buys three bottles. So we have raised enough money to clean roughly 570 birds. I made a deal with myself to run this blog as long as the oil spills. I want the oil to stop now. But as long as it's flowing I'll be here and will welcome any new art submissions.

The first semester is nearly ending.. I will give my final lesson tomorrow with my Design class. I will miss them..they are so different and each and everyone of them gave me so much... I love teaching..I think I'm a good teacher..not to pride or anything but I always try my best..I only hope they've learned anything... :)

I've posted here the original made before that and the weird looking adaptation I made..
It was supposed to be weird.. the hand (as you can see is a left hand not a right hand) and the bodie is stylized and cold..

and it's more human then you, because your wicked, demonic, your not
the man I love, that I want, the one I wisper too..Everyday I try to find
you..but I never do. Tell me where you are, where can I find you..who said
I even wanted to find you? maybe I'm tired.. the search can be long...
I don't settle for little, I always want more...this insatiable being of mine,
wishes the very essence of sin, I want a different body every night, and as
I wake up..I wanna touch deep inside..Scream!

I did this in 99.. when I was about sixteen, back then it was all about experimenting new techniques in my graphic journal, this is an example..
The right one is actually a poem " sorry it's in portuguese" I wrote compulsively, you could say it's similar to the way the surrealist wrote theirs... but mine has a whole sense in it.. a more subconscious one (not really automatic writing)... You could say my mind already knew what my heart failed to accept.. :)

For this week's illustration friday theme Geeky..I though of the typical Clark Kent geeky type..
trying to pass out as a non super hero.. This is for all geeks to see..even a person which is called a geek can be who ever he wants to be, a superhero or anything ..They just have to believe they are above all of what people think about them..! and just try to be themselves.. geeky or non geeky..who cares? right'? :)

As a designer..I tend to go with the flow when it comes to choosing slim models for my illustrations.. I try to justify myself saying they are fashionable and healthy! However..few of us can really say they have a "super model look" which is just a product of photoshop retouched photographs and a lot of makeup, most of us are of normal weight and sometimes heavier appearence. So are we giving the wrong image to girls? saying your only gonna be sexy and apealing If your skinny? I think not..I think beauty comes from within..at the true beauty isn't physical, is of feelings and character.. and that can't be changed by time..it grows with you!
